Author’s Note: In this
piece I will explain the theme of the book Dark Secrets by Elizabeth
Chandler. Also, how this book reminds me of another book I’ve read that have
similar themes.
There are people
out there that have told lies and some people that have lost their trust to
their close ones. The story Dark
Secrets by Elizabeth Chandler, is exactly how the characters are to one
another. Lies and trust issues are one of the major themes in this book.
Throughout the book the authors tells the reader that lying to people can lose
their trust towards people and create a
separation to the ones that are close to you.
Lauren, who is one
of the main characters in the book, has gone through so much by the people she
loves. She has gone through sleepless nights, being scared, and confused just
because of her Aunt and cousins. You can really see how lies becomes one of the
major theme in the book when Lauren knew
that there was something that her family weren’t telling her about her mother’s
death, all they would say to her was that it was accident. Later she finds out
that her mother had drowned in the lake. She couldn’t help but wonder why they would lie to her face like that and
didn’t tell her that is what really happened to her mother. Even today there
are people that keep secrets from one another that shouldn’t be kept as secret. That
can affect the person a lot and their behavior.
Not only are people
lying, but there are people that would that can’t even trust people that are really close to them. That’s
just how Lauren felt when she got a note saying “You’re Next” on her car after
she was in cemetery, she didn’t want to believe what that really meant. Also,
while she was driving, out of nowhere there was a huge brick that hit the tire
of her car and she got into a awful accident. She knew that there was someone
out there to get her. Everyone made her feel like she was crazy. Now Lauren
couldn’t trust anyone, It could have been anyone of them trying to get Lauren.
There was no one that she could trust with anything anymore, she felt like she
was all alone now.
The theme of this
book reminds me of the book Pretty
Little Liars by Sara Shepard. Both books have similar themes of lies
and trust issues because in the book the four girls had a friend that was
murdered and they knew someone in their community had something to do with her
murder but, someone is just lying to them about the whole thing. They also knew
that they couldn’t trust or become close to anyone because they are getting
blackmailed by a person that goes by the name “A”, who leaves them text
messages and notes that says all these
stuff saying how they have to do something or something bad will happen to
them.
Even though the
theme in the book is lies and trust issues ,today this same issue goes around
with people lying to each other and losing their trust with people. People
don’t think it’s a big thing big thing but, this is one of the most common way
people lose their trust with people is when they lie to them.
